OILING SYSTEMS FOR COMPETITION ENGINES

| Downs Engineering fabricates wet and dry sump oil pans for the Suzuki Hayabusa and the GSXR 1000. We can also make custom oil pans for any engine to fit your needs.
Our wet sump pans are designed to keep the oil around the oil pump pickup under hard cornering and braking. The Suzuki engine uses a very high volume of pressurized oil to lubricate the engine and gearbox and is susceptable to starving the oil pump if oil is sloshed away during cornering and braking. The penalty for oil being pushed away from the pump pick up is Connecting Rod Bearing and Main Bearing failure, resulting in engine blow up. To keep the oil from moving away from the oil pump pickup we have designed the pans to keep the oil in a trough and around the oil pump pick up. This is accomplished with our pans being 11/2" shallower than the stock pan which means the engine can be lowered in the chassis by that amount. We have sucessfully used these pans in racing competition for over six years. We also make a windage tray/baffle to help keep oil off the crankshaft and in the oil pan.
Our dry sump oil systems are the ultimate in oil control, storing the oil in a seperate tank reservoir away from the engine's lower end. The oil is drawn from the tank as needed by a remote pump that has a much greater volume capacity than does the stock oil pump. Our complete system includes the remote oil pump, the drive for the pump, a two-stage oil pan and the oil tank.
We can custom make oil pans and oil systems for any engine to fit the many needs of different chassis and types of racing. |
